Oshana
About

Why Oshana

An oshana is a seasonal floodplain in northern Namibia. When the rains come, the oshanas fill, and life concentrates — fish, water, grazing, mahangu cultivation. The metaphor is the product: a place where farmers, officers, and programme staff gather to find each other and find their next action.

What we are

Oshana is the connective tissue between smallholder farmers and the existing agripreneurial pipeline — programmes, cooperatives, extension officers, donors. It is not a new pipeline. It is a layer that makes the existing one legible and actionable for the people who need it.

Two principles

Bounded AI, never freelance. The advisor answers only from a curated, cited corpus. If the corpus doesn't have a Namibian source for the question, the advisor says so and points the user to the forum instead. The model never invents a source.

The community is human, by design. No AI summarises forum posts. No AI auto-replies. Verified officers — MAWLR extension officers, NAU-affiliated agronomists — moderate. Posts are region-scoped so language carries naturally. English-language comments from moderators do the cross-language work as engagement happens.

Who built this

Oshana is a project of Fontein Digital — a Namibian digital agency building infrastructure for African problems, starting in Namibia. Built for the Agripreneurial Innovation Challenge Namibia 2026 (Capricorn Foundation × UNIDO × Basecamp × NGIN).
